Islanders baseball hoping to climb the Southland standings

Texas A&M-CC is hoping a newer roster with several JUCO transfers will help the program rebound after a couple of lackluster seasons.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Scott Malone's Islanders have a lot of new faces in the lineup and on the mound in 2024, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The Islanders overhauled their coaching staff a year and a half ago and so this year's roster is largely their recruits including a good amount of JUCO transfers. The pitching staff was a weakness for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last year with a team ERA of over 6.00, but Malone and the Islanders say there should be a big improvement on the mound thanks to the return of 6 foot 5 inch righty Matthew Watson and some new transfers that can throw strikes.

The Islanders open the season on the road at the Stephen F. Austin invitational on Friday, February 16th. Their first game in Corpus Christi is against the University of Kansas on February 20th over at Whataburger Field.

Spent the afternoon out with an Islanders doubleheader preview. I’ll have a season preview with Scott Malone’s Islanders Baseball at 6 PM and Kathleen Rodriguez’s Islanders Softball at 10 PM. #3SportsBlitz KIII 3 News Sports Blitz - KIII 3 News
