AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders got their signature win of the season Tuesday, defeating the Texas Longhorns 4-1 at UT's Disch-Falk Field.
The Islanders got a big three-run homer from Christian Smith-Johnson in the second inning. Stephen Hom would add to the lead with a ground rule RBI double in the 6th.
Coach Scott Malone got what was essentially a bullpen game, with Jack Hill going two scoreless inning to open. Samuel Feltz and Cam Soliz combined for 3.2 scoreless relief innings before Kendall Dove gave up a run in the 8th. Maddox Thornton got the save with a strikeout to end the game.
It was the Islanders' first win in Austin since 2016 and their fifth victory over Texas all-time.
