Islanders set to tip off second season under Jim Shaw

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished with 21 wins in Shaw's first season and now returns a majority of starters.

It might not feel like basketball season outside, but the hoops are coming up in just a handful of days as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi gets set to tip off its season on Monday.

Jim Shaw's men's team is coming off 21 wins in his rookie season as head coach. That was following a tumultuous offseason with a massive roster turnover. Now, Shaw and the Islanders have a majority of their starters back including leading scorer Garry Clark and they're hoping to take the next step and compete for their third southland title in the last four seasons.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi certainly doesn't start with a cupcake this season. The Islanders will take on the defending national runner-up Purdue on the road Monday night in a game that can be seen on the Big 10 Network.
