DALLAS — Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs will need knee surgery and is out for the season, sources tell WFAA Cowboys Insider Ed Werder.

The team officially announced Diggs was downgraded to out on Saturday and would not play against the Carolina Panthers. Diggs will not travel to Charlotte with the team either, team officials said.

The Cowboys did not disclose the specifics of Diggs’ knee injury, but a source told Werder it is “significant.”

Diggs was a limited participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday, but he did not practice Friday. Diggs had been listed as questionable for the game but was downgraded to out on Saturday. Throughout the week, Diggs' tone seemed to suggest he would play against the Panthers.

"I’m OK, you know, just dealing with the same issue that I was before. But other than that, I was just fighting through it and pushing," Diggs said Thursday about how he felt coming out of the Bengals loss.

Diggs told reporters what motivates him in a season like this one – where the Cowboys have a 5-8 record – was "pride."

"You know, just want to go out there and be the best for your teammates," Diggs said. "Want to be the best for yourself and just try to put effort out there and just not giving up. You know, I've never been a quitter. I never, you know, been one of those type of people.”

This marks the third time this season Diggs has missed a game due to an injury. He missed 15 games last year after tearing his ACL in his left knee in Week 2 of the 2023 season.

A team source told Werder that Diggs injured his knee playing Monday night in the loss to the Bengals.

With Diggs out, the Cowboys elevated cornerback Andrew Booth from the practice squad.

In other Cowboys news, DeMarvion Overshown was placed on injured reserve after suffering a devastating season-ending knee injury.

Diggs will become the 19th player to be placed injured reserve – nine of whom are starters.
