PARIS, France — U.S. gymnast Simone Biles has entered the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all-time) conversation after winning her sixth Olympics gold medal, only three behind all-time leader Romanian great Nadia Comaneci.
Many already consider Biles the greatest gymnast of all-time.
Biles, 27, won her sixth gold and ninth overall Olympic medal after winning the women's all-around competition at the Paris Olympic Games. She also became the oldest woman to win gold in all-around since then 30-year-old Maria Gorokhovskaya of the Soviet Union won the first-ever Olympic all-around in Melbourne in 1952.
While winning her sixth gold medal, Biles leaned into her G.O.A.T. legacy with a diamond goat necklace. Talk about a flex ... and we're completely here for it!
If Biles gets first in two more events in Paris, she'll land on the list of Americans with the most gold medals at the Summer Olympics.
Currently, Jenny Thompson - with eight gold medals - has the most of any American woman in the Summer Games - Biles would need three more surpass Thompson's mark. Biles could, potentially, tie Comaneci for the nine gold medal milestone by the end of this Olympics. She still has three more events to compete in but would need to win all of them: Vault, balance beam and floor exercise.
When will Simone Biles compete at the Olympics again?
- Saturday, Aug. 3 - Vault event
- Monday, Aug. 5 - Balance beam finals
- Monday, Aug. 5 - Floor exercise finals
The overall Olympic gymnastics record belongs to Larisa Latynina, who competed for the Soviet Union, and won 18 medals across her three appearances in the Olympics.
