SKIDMORE, Texas — A Skidmore-Tynan track athlete will be heading to the state competition in Austin this weekend.
Junior Katryna Hernandez is the only female athlete who will be competing in shot put and discus.
According to Hernandez, a lot of women who are in her events don't get a ton of recognition which has motivated her to work even harder.
"It means a lot to me because like I know some people don't have the opportunity to be here and stuff, and it just makes me excited to have the chance to go throw," Hernandez said.
On top of being a part of the track team, Hernandez also keeps straight A's grade.
Hernandez starts competing Friday morning in Austin.
