CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The University Interscholastic League released its new districts for the entire state Thursday morning and with the bi-annual realignment, the motto should always be "expect the unexpected."
The Coastal Bend saw several teams move up or move down a division, but the big surprise was the Alice Coyotes being placed in a 5A-Div. II district with teams from the Valley. The Coyotes were expected to be with the majority of the CCISD teams and Gregory-Portland, but now face a longer travel schedule the next couple seasons. That also sent the coaches from Moody, Ray, Miller, Carroll and King scrambling to fill an unexpected extra game on their non-district schedule.

Class 5A also sees the return of the "Yorktown Showdown" on the football field with Veterans Memorial and Flour Bluff returning to the same district together. The two programs haven't played each other since meeting up in back-to-back state quarterfinals in 2020 and 2021. Flour Bluff is back in 5A-Div. I with the Eagles after playing in Div. II for the past two seasons.
The Miller Buccaneers scheduled the biggest non-district game in the viewing area, securing a Week 3 match-up with defending 6A-Div. II state champion DeSoto out of the Dallas area. That game will be played in San Marcos with the venue to be determined.
Cuero coming back to Region IV and specifically to the Coastal Bend District 15-4A Div. II means stiffer competition for the likes of Sinton, Ingleside, Rockport-Fulton and Robstown. It's the first time the Gobblers have been in a local district since the 2016-2017 seasons.
Check below for the new football districts for the 2024-2025 football seasons. The districts for the other fall sports were put out by the UIL as well and are featured at the bottom of the story.
