CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We are seeing the effects of that Tropical Storm here in the Coastal Bend, like Ryan Shoptaugh said, "a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect."
3 News Reporter Mariah Gallegos joined us live out on the Island with a look at how the conditions are out there.
“We’re live here, near Bob Hall Pier where earlier today a high-tide came in and mixed with some of those effects from Tropical Storm Cristobal, we are seeing some Coastal flooding. A lot of people who were parked or camping out, were woken up by some of those waves. Although it has calmed down a bit, the waves are still hitting pretty close to where visitors would normally park. Several people have started to park along the entrance and the Padre Island National Seashore has temporarily closed it’s North and South beaches as a precaution. We are still seeing lots of visitors here at the beach as you can see people, are driving around in their cars, having trouble getting out of that wet sand. So, we want to let you know if you do plan on visiting the beach sometime today or anytime soon, just be careful coming out. If you are getting in that water also be aware of those rip currents and dangers of the conditions and if you’re a surfer, well have fun!"
3News Meteorologist, Ryan Shoptaugh, says the Coastal Flood Advisory will be in effect until Monday. This means the water will reach up all the way to the dunes and create dangerous driving conditions.
