CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Park Road 22 Bridge has been restored back to two lanes.
It comes after a depression in the new road on Park Road 22 needed repairs.
The existing roadway was removed where the depression was, and more material was needed for the repairs to be done properly, according to Corpus Christi Engineering Services Assistant Director Brett Van Hazel.
"Some of the material underneath the, where the depression was had, I guess you could say, settled, or fallen down, creating somewhat of a void underneath the roadway," Van Hazel said.
All but one lane of the Park Road 22 Bridge was closed to address a failure in the road. Only one direction of travel was allowed through in increments during the closure.
The void was filled to get the road back to the right level after base material was removed, allowing asphalt to be put down. The lane closure was originally supposed to last just a few hours, but an update from the City of Corpus Christi stated additional work was needed.
“Once they got in there the, the scale of it was just a little bit bigger than what they anticipated,” Van Hazel said.
A pilot car and flaggers kept traffic going in one direction at a time during repairs.
"Unfortunately, it delays the motorists," Van Hazel said. "But it, but it’s the only way to maintain two-way direction in a circumstance like this."
