CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Anyone who's weathered flash flooding or tropical storm-level rain in the Coastal Bend know the value of having sandbags around the house in order to keep water from seeping in under doors and other openings.
That's why some governmental bodies in the area are making sandbags available as Hurricane Beryl makes its way toward the Gulf of Mexico.
Corpus Christi will continue its event on Friday, but if you live outside of the city, here are some other locations having events:
Bishop
Residents can pick up sandbags from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at city hall or at the Bishop Police Department on Friday. You will need to bring the proper equipment to fill the bags yourself.
Ingleside
The city of Ingleside also will be making sandbags available to the public at 2525 Eighth Street.
Residents will need to fill their own bags, but bags will be provided at the Ingleside Public Works building.
There is a limit of six bags per household.
Kleberg County
Kleberg County will be distributing sandbags starting at noon Friday at locations around the county. They are:
- Precinct 1: 1910 E. Trant Rd. in Kingsville
- Precinct 3: 433 E. County Rd. in Riviera
- Precinct 4: 622 N. 14th in Kingsville
Rockport
Residents will need to bring their own shovels to fill sandbags offered by the city of Rockport from Thursday-Saturday.
Proof of residency is required in order to get them and residents will be limited to a maximum of 10 bags.
The event will be held at Memorial Park at 1601 FM 2165 (Pearl Street) from 7 a.m.-noon Thursday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m.-noon Saturday.
The bags are being offered first come, first served.
