Roads, bridges overwhelmed, multiple rescues conducted after major flooding across Central Texas

Coryell, Bosque, and Hamilton were among the hardest hit counties, with some areas getting up to 7 inches of rain.

CORYELL COUNTY, Texas — Multiple people were rescued and roads and bridges were closed due to flooding across Central Texas Sunday morning. It comes after torrential rain through the early morning hours with some counties, like Coryell, Hamilton, and Bosque, getting upwards of 6 to 8 inches of rain in just a few hours.

The Coryell County Sheriff's Office took to Facebook to alert people of roads that were closed. One post at 10 a.m. showed FM 1829 between FM 107 and SH 36 completely overtaken by water.

"County residents are asked to avoid all travel unless absolutely necessary," another post read. "Several roads, including areas  of FM 116,  are impassible at this time because of floodwaters, debris and road damage from last night’s storms."

The Coryell County Sheriff's Office posted a list of all of the roads currently impassable here.

The Bosque County Sheriff's Office posted a video around 9 a.m. that showed FM 219 covered in water about a mile east of Clifton. The person recording the video says emergency crews had conducted a swift water rescue of someone on FM 1991, which runs along the North Bosque River.

"Clifton is a virtual island, water all the way around it, so stay home and be safe," the person in the video says.

"The Bosque River and many creeks are out of their banks and creating hazards across the county," another post on the sheriff's Facebook page reads. "Several swift water rescues have already been conducted and some evacuations have begun."

The Bosque County Office of Emergency Management reported that SH 6 was closed at Meridian Creek north of Clifton and at Neils Creek south of Clifton.

A video posted by Bryan Moon shows a horse trailer being swept away at the Circle T Resort in Hamilton.
