NWS confirms new details about tornado touching down in San Antonio area Thursday

And two others may have formed in the region as well.

SAN ANTONIO — Officials with the National Weather Service say they plan to conduct on-site surveys of areas around San Antonio where possible twisters formed during a stormy Thursday morning, but were able to confirm a tornado touched down in the Terrell Hills area.

NWS stated an EF-0 tornado touched down with 80 mph winds based on the damages done to trees and structures along the path. The tornado traveled through the Fort Sam Houston area.

NWS said it was investigating the possibility of another tornado near Canyon Lake. KENS 5 viewers sent photos and video of what appeared to be potential tornadic activity in the Seguin area, as well as closer to central San Antonio.

No injuries were reported when severe weather swept through the region Thursday morning, compounded by heavy rain and strong winds. On the east side, tree limbs scattered the Government Hill neighborhood and power lines were downed, while roofing was partially ripped from buildings at Fort Sam Houston.

The City of San Antonio couldn't provide an immediate damage estimate. NWS is expected to provide more information Friday on how many homes and businesses were affected by the Terrell Hills tornado.
