CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As Tropical Storm Nicholas moves along the Coastal Bend region, Corpus Christi city leaders said several roads that lead to Gulf beaches are underwater.
Therefore, several roads that provide vehicle access to the beaches are now closed.
Here's the list of closures:
- Gulf Beach Access Road 2
- Gulf Beach Access Road 3
- Gulf Beach Access Road 3A
- Newport Pass Road
- Zahn Road
- Whitecap Boulevard
According to the city, The National Weather Service and the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Beach Operations crews are reporting increasingly large swells and continual tidal flooding near the beaches.
"The NWS is forecasting a two to four foot depth of floodwater on our beaches, making them hazardous for drivers," city officials said in a news release. "Currently, our beach driving lanes are underwater with surges up to the sand dunes and into many of the City’s access roads."
Crews plan on reassessing conditions Tuesday morning and make any necessary adjustments.
While these roads are closed, pedestrian access on area beaches will remain available. However, visitors are encouraged to exercise caution and monitor the Beach Flag Warning System.
Monday's flag warning color is red, which indicates dangerous currents.
