CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With all eyes on the tropics, Kleberg County is among those taking early precautions against Hurricane Beryl.
Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid said that the county is already calling in resources to prepare for severe weather, especially due to Kingsville's tendency to flood.
"We've got truck loads of, 18-wheeler loads, of sand bags as we speak in route to Kleberg County," he said.
Madrid said that the county is even factoring in stable living conditions for those who may not have a place to go.
"Our FEMA domes have been on alert for shelter in place," he said.
Madrid said he's keeping a special eye on senior residents.
"That our senior citizens are well taken care of," he said. "We are going to load them up with frozen food so they have that for the duration."
3NEWS spoke with Fernando Rodriguez, a Kingsville resident who has weathered his fair share of storms. He said that he's lived through and dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Celia back in the 70's.
"Well I boarded up all the windows, but I changed it to storm windows so I won't have to board them up anymore," he said.
Just like everyone else, Rodriguez said he is playing the waiting game.
"They just don't know where it's going to hit, that's why I'm just holding up until I get close to it," he said.
If that does happen, Rodriguez said he is prepared.
"Yes I have plenty of canned food and of course cold cuts," he said.
