CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Port Lavaca saw sheets of rain from the the outer edge of Hurricane Beryl as it made landfall in Matagorda at about 4 a.m. Monday.
Trees and business signs can be seen blown around the streets, but many saw fit to board up ahead of the storm.
3NEWS stayed the night in Rockport, which saw little to no rain overnight, but farther up the road in Port Lavaca, the effects of the Category 1 hurricane could be seen more easily.
That area was seeing 44 MPH wind gusts as of 5:20 a.m.
Seadrift, Austwell and Tivoli saw tropical-storm force sustained winds at about 3:40 a.m. Monday, not long before Beryl made landfall almost 100 miles up the Gulf coast in Matagorda.
Sometime in the 30 minutes between Bill's live hits in the 5 a.m. hour, Port Lavaca lost power, with generators kicking on where they were available.
