CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Heat advisories are being issued once again in South Texas in response to a very hot day to be expected. While air temperatures will remain in the middle-90s, more humidity will allow for our heat index values to climb.
Up until today, we've gone through 2022 with just seeing 'heat advisories' issued. However, after more than a year, Corpus Christi is observing an 'Excessive Heat Warning.' The criteria for National Weather Service offices to issue these advisories varies across our country. Below are the requirements for each advisory at our Corpus Christi office.
The difference is in 'how hot it will feel' outside. Today, Jim Wells, Kleberg and Nueces counties will have an excessive heat warning in effect from 11 a.m.- 8p.m.
You'll notice the difference in forecast heat indices in those areas, versus the areas North of Corpus Christi.
These values do fall in the 'extreme' category, making it a dangerous day to spend long hours outside. If you are, make sure you are drinking plenty of water and taking breaks where and when you can.
