NUECES COUNTY, Texas — The college of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M Corpus Christi has shared projected storm surge numbers by area at landfall for Tropical Storm Hanna.
Projected amounts of storm surge:
- Bob Hall Pier: 4-6 ft (currently 1.5 feet above sea level)
- Padre Island in front of Baffin Bay: 4-6 ft
- Baffin Bay: 3-5 ft
- Mustang Island: 4-6 ft
- Texas A&M Corpus Christi: 5 ft
- Port of Corpus Christi 5-7 ft
- Back of Nueces Bay: 6-8 ft
- Rockport: 3-5 ft
Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales said no one should underestimate the power and force that Tropical Storm Hanna will bring to the Coastal Bend.
"Some people get excited about the idea of the storm is coming and they think it's interesting to go outside and look, we're really encouraging people, 'please don't do that, stay inside, make sure you can shelter in your home," Canales said.
Local officials are urging the community to sign up for 'Reverse Alert' to keep the latest on emergency announcements.
