The Weather Impact Alert continues for Thursday in Corpus Christi for temperatures expected to be at or above 100°.
A temperature north of 100 degrees is one of the criteria for issuing an alert day.
We have a 100° forecast high temperature for Corpus Christi, Thursday.
The heat index will be at or above 100° from around 10am through 7 or 8pm, Thursday. That's quite a long time to be registering 'feels-like' temperatures that high. Practicing heat safety is critical with this type of heat.
High temperatures are forecast to top out in the 100s throughout the Coastal Bend, Thursday. You'll have to head to the beach to find the 90s. Some interior sections of the viewing area could exceed a 105 air temperature.
Heat index values will likely top out between 110 and 115. Some spots will hit above 115 for a few hours and that will likely mean another excessive heat warning issued for parts of the region.
These conditions are hotter than normal for the Coastal Bend, so it's extremely important to continue to practice heat safety. If you have to work in these conditions you should take more breaks, and drink more water than on previous days this summer. If the air condition goes out, conditions can become dangerous. Check on your neighbors and find cooling centers if you do find yourself without A/C.
Reminder, do not leave pets, elderly, or children in a car that is not on with A/C running. With air temperatures up around 100° the temperature inside a car that is turned off with the windows up could reach 120 in just 10 minutes and over 140 after an hour.
The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature will also be in the 'extreme' category, Thursday. The Wet bulb globe temperature is a value that accounts for things like air temperature, humidity, sun angle, wind, and cloud overage. It moves down on Friday and Saturday.
There is some hope for slightly cooler temperatures heading into next week. Head here for the latest on that and the rest of the forecast, which includes a chance for rain.
