When do we usually see the hottest day of the year?

We've just barely made it outside the climatological hottest time of the year in Corpus Christi. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has had other plans for us the past few days.

The average high temperature peaks at 96°F from August 5-15 for Corpus Christi. Our average high temperature during this timeframe last year was 100.7°F.

This year, our average high temperature for August 5-15 was right on with the climatology at 95.8°F. Over the past week, though, that average high temperature has climbed to over 98°F, courtesy of multiple 100-degree afternoons.

So far this year, we've hit at least 100°F seven times this year through today's date. In comparison, by August 21 of last year, we'd hit 100°F 36 times.

August by far has the most 100-degree days on record in Corpus Christi, with 113 days at or above 100°F. July has the second-most at 48 days, and surprisingly, September has the third most with 38 days.

So it's a pretty safe bet to say that our hottest day of the year usually comes in August, right? Yes, but not for this exact reason. This just tells us we have a lot of hot weather in August.

The hottest day (or days) of each year has come in August in five of the last ten years, but in two of those years, the hottest day of the year was actually less than 100°F.

So, most hottest days of the year do come in July and August.

Of the days listed below, 11 out of 21 days currently hold the high temperature record, and one was a prior record until it was beaten by a later hottest day of the year (June 21).
