Tropical Storm Fernand will bring rain to South Texas today

Expect scattered showers throughout South Texas as Tropical Storm Fernand works in to Northeast Mexico.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — TODAY: Expect scattered shower activity with some thunderstorms mixed in throughout Wednesday as Tropical Storm Fernand heads for NE Mexico.  There will be some pockets of heavy rain with this activity; however, it will not rain all day.  The closer you get to the Valley, the more frequent rain will be.  Corpus Christi could receive between a half inch and an inch of rain.  Mostly cloudy skies with highs near 90 this afternoon.  East breeze at 15-25 mph.

Fernand, to our south, will bring higher than normal tides and 5-7 ft. waves.  Water up to the dunes in spots.  The rip current risk will also be high.  Not the best day for area beaches.

TONIGHT: Isolated showers will continue to move in from the east.  Mostly cloudy skies with overnight lows near 80.  East breeze at 10-15 mph.

LOOKING AHEAD: Fernand will be in to Mexico Thursday, but will still bring passing shower or weak thunderstorms to the Coastal Bend, mainly Thursday morning.  Expect drier weather into the afternoon with highs in the low 90s.  Generally rain free and warmer for the weekend with highs in the middle 90s.
