Suspects sentenced for 2022 fatal stabbing in Alice

Alaniz was sentenced to 30 years in prison and Garcia sentenced to 20 years.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Tuesday Jim Wells County Sheriff Danny Bueno and District Attorney Carlos Garcia announced the sentences for Trey Alaniz and Audriel Garcia for the stabbing death of 37-year-old Agapito Casas

Alaniz was sentenced to 30 years in prison and Garcia sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In November 2022 the Jim Wells County Sheriff's office received calls from the victim's neighbors about yelling and screaming coming from his trailer.

When the Sheriff's Office arrived at the Rancho Allegra area on Range Street they discovered Casas on the floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The district attorney said thanks to the collaboration between the Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and the Alice Police Department, both suspects were identified and charged with capitol murder within days of the incident.

"By them being able to track down some of the information, the leads that were coming in and being able to corroborate information that had already been gathered, that lead to the indictment, this case was able to get to a resolution yesterday," Garcia said.

Bueno said it takes teamwork to ensure a conviction and that's something he hopes his office and the others can continue to do in the future.

"Having the evidence provided and the hard work means a lot to us, it means a lot to the community," Bueno said.

Tuesday's announcement came after Alaniz and Garcia accepted a plea deal.
