CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Friday the Coast Guard and GLO responded to a boat that washed up at Mile Marker 251, just south of Bob Hall Pier.
The boat was found by beachgoers who were a little surprised to see it stranded.
"I was passing the guys who were shark fishing right down there and I see this boat over here and the beach enforcement and another couple was looking at it," one beachgoer said.
The group called in the Coast Guard for help around 1 p.m. which turned into a multi-agency investigation.
Officials say it was most likely an illegal fishing boat.
They found several cans of fuel onboard which is consistent to what's typically found on illegal vessels.
If you're wondering what happened with the boat after the investigation, the man who came across it was cleared by officials to keep it. Which he was pretty excited about.
"I'm pretty ecstatic! It's got a 150 Vmax that still turns over and everything right now as it sits," he said.
