Safe, family-friendly activities for the weekend

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If you and your family have been suffering from a little cabin fever, there are plenty of fun, safe things to do this evening throughout the City of Corpus Christi.

Brewster's Street Ice House (Southside location) will be having a Superhero Drive-thru event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. 

Captain America, Supergirl, the Ninja Turtles, the Corpus Christi Joker, and many other Superheroes will be in the parking lot, and families will be allowed to drive through and see the characters from the safety of their own vehicles.

Brewster's Street Ice House - South Side is also having a dinner special, and if you purchase an adult entrée, you will receive a Superhero Kid's chicken tenders meal for only $5. Call 361-345-2739 to order ahead, organizers say. Although, you do not have to purchase any food in order to greet the superheroes. 

Church Unlimited will be hosting a prayer parade starting at 7 p.m., honoring frontline medical workers. 

Organizers urge parade-goers to wear a face mask and to also stay in their cars at all times. 

You may also decorate your car and bring signs, balloons, and noisemakers to show encouragement for our incredible community of medical workers. 

According to a Facebook post from Church Unlimited, they will be at the following hospitals:  

Bay Area Hospital
Doctors Regional Hospital
The Heart Hospital
Northwest Regional Hospital
Northshore Emergency Center
Driscoll Children's Hospital 

A Facebook post from their Rodd Field location states, "Church Unlimited-Rodd Field will be at The Heart Hospital tomorrow for the Prayer Parade! Here are some steps to make sure you and the rest of our Rodd Field fam have the BEST time possible! Arrive at 6:45 p.m. and we go Live with Ps Bil at 7:00 p.m."

1. GET CREATIVE BY DECORATING YOUR CARS! Window chalk, posters, etc. saying “We LOVE CC”, “We are praying for you”, “We love hospital teams”, etc.

2. Wear protective face gear/masks AT ALL TIMES

3. Enter Bay Area Heart ❤️ Hospital through the Williams Street entrance. (Please do not enter through the emergency entrance)

4. Follow the Church Unlimited Rodd Field directional team

5. Park in the instructed parking spot

6. Turn your hazard lights on

7. Tune into 104.7 FM or Facebook/Instagram Live

8. Please for your safety and the safety of others the hospital has asked that everyone stay in your vehicle

9. Get ready for God to move through your prayers!!

10. As we exit... HONK, HONK, HONK TO LET ALL MEDICAL PERSONNEL THAT WE LOVE THEM AND WE ARE CONTINUING TO PRAY FOR THEM!

The Special Olympics of South Texas is hosting the S.O. Connected community celebration from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

The event will feature trivia games, a dance party, and their awards ceremony. Awards will be handed out to their athletes via live streaming, who have been participating in online physical activities. Athletes and participants have been submitting videos and photos through the app -- S.O. Connected. Tune in for a dance party for the whole family.

The Spazmatics always put on a fun, colorful show, for the whole family to dance the night away. The Spazmatics are known for covering classic songs from the 80s and dressing up in costumes to enhance their incredible, live performance.
