Positively Pink: Teacher Jessica Blair feels the support from her students after breast cancer diagnosis

We caught up with the Vets Memorial teacher at a pep rally where she was honored by her students.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If there is one thing we have learned during our Positively Pink breast cancer series this month --it's that you need a strong support system at home.

Wait until you see the love and support one Coastal Bend teacher is feeling following a very large, and loud pep rally!

You are not going to find a louder battle cry to end breast cancer than right here at the Vets Memorial Pink Out rally.

At the center of this sea of pink is Jessica Blair --an environmental science teacher.

And a breast cancer survivor.

"I fall into about 2% of the people that have what I do.”

Her school knows her battle. Her students know her fight. Blair was diagnosed summer 2023 with triple positive breast cancer right on the verge of turning 32.

“I had a full radical double mastectomy and reconstruction, had multiple rounds of chemotherapy and then immunotherapy. Infusions for a full year."

In a unique twist --her mother was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer last spring.
She just wrapped up treatment and rang the bell the morning 3NEWS met with her daughter via video chat.

"I’m very blessed to have an amazing mom. She was so supportive of me when I was diagnosed and then to turn around and support her. It is not something I’d wish on any kid. to watch her mom, go through that."

If you haven't gathered by now --having a strong support system at home and at work is vital.

"The biggest thing I hope my students get is: you can find joy in anything."
Apparently, her students agree. Blair got to hand out the spirit stick on the very special day to the class with the most cheer!

"I love my students. I love what I teach. and I love what I do."
