CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi is getting a Bass Pro Shop, Mayor Paulette Guajardo announced Wednesday morning.
Guajardo said the news conference was to announce Corpus Christi had been selected as one of the store's next destinations, but had no specific information, such as location.
The outdoors sports megastore has been in talks with the city for two years, Bass Pro Shops officials said during the news conference, and said the region's rich hunting and fishing history contributed to the choice.
Company representative Mike Dunham said the Coastal Bend region's fish and other wildlife species into account in the store's design.
"There's no stores alike," Dunham said. "Every one is uniquely built to pay tribute to the heritage of its region."
He also said Newsweek recently recognized the company as a reputable place to work.
This is a developing story. 3NEWS will provide updates as they become available.
