CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi community came together with heavy hearts to remember one of the city’s finest -- CCPD Ofc. Kyle Hicks.
There was a strong showing of support as folks filed into First Baptist Church on Ocean Drive to pay their respects.
Among those in attendance were family members, friends -- as well as his fellow brothers and sisters in blue from across the region -- there to offer their support and say their goodbyes.
Community members watched and listened from across the street as the service was broadcast through a speaker.
"You have a heart, I guess," said one man who watched from a bench across the street. "You can feel the compassion and empathy for people. But as police officers, especially."
Hicks born in Everett, Washington, before relocating to Texas when he was 12.
It was here he met his wife while rising through the ranks at Chick-Fil-A, ascending all the way to general manager. The two had four children.
But as much success as he had at Chick-Fil-A, his lifelong goal was to become a police officer.
"There can be no doubt that Kyle will be remembered forever here, with us, with honor, as an example of what it means to be a true hero," said Corpus Christi Police Department Chief Michael Markle.
He will be remembered by those closest to him for his willingness to take on new opportunities, his generosity, kindness, and attention to detail -- while protecting our community, and continuing to bring comfort and joy to his family.
As the service ended, a 21-gun salute was performed in his honor.
And then, a final call over the police radio.
A fitting tribute for a husband, father, a hero.
