Bond 2023 passage allows T-MISD tech, transportation safety upgrades

The improvements' aim is to give parents peace of mind when students are on buses.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Tuloso-Midway ISD is expecting some noticeable upgrades as a result of the passing of its Bond 2023 proposal passing Tuesday.

Some of those include a new junior high campus, new school bus camera systems, and more.

Superintendent Steven VanMatre said Thursday that the decision to implement the camera system was rooted in safety and wanting to provide parents with an extra level of reassurance when their children are being transported to and from school.

“The state only gives us $10 dollars a kid,” he said. “We've designated at least $85 a kid for needs. Being able to track the buses, where they’re at, know where our kids are, is not only a best practice for safety and security but for peace of mind."

VanMatre said the system also will help the district keep closer tabs on children, and that parents will also be kept in the know with notifications.

He also said T-MISD does allocate more funds per student when it comes to student safety.
