CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Students at Moses Menger Elementary School were surprised with bikes as part of a new initiative to get students outside and riding.
The national 'All Kids Bike Learn-to-Ride' physical education aims to teach Kindergarten students to ride bikes thanks to a generous donation from engineering firm HDR.
Menger Elementary School staff and HDR representatives got to be a part of the surprise, and introduce the new program to kindergarteners.
"So the main goal that we would like to see is we would like to see kids more engaged within outside curricular activities and in the community, and also learning life skills, such as riding a bike, something that's so simple that they can learn through this program," said HDR Engineering Office Manager Alexa Fulbright.
PE teacher Joe Medina said he's grateful that his school got to be the first to implement the program.
The ceremony revealed 24 balance-to-pedal conversion bikes that will be used during PE and included a first-ride opportunity for the excited kindergarteners.
