CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The La Retama Central Library will soon have a new community room available to children 14 years old and younger with specific sensory-friendly needs in 2024.
The city of Corpus Christi said in a release Tuesday that the room will have activities tailored to children who are easily overstimulated, such as soft-play equipment, bubble tubes, interactive wall panels in addition to other educational equipment.
The room is the first free public space of its kind in the Coastal Bend, the release states, and is being funded through a $75,000 Texas State Library and Archives Commission grant.
The room will be accessible to children, as well as their parents, therapists, caregivers and teachers, and sensory-friendly activities are being planned for the new space.
