CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The 10th annual Dr. Hector P. Garcia American GI Forum of South Texas and Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Chapter scholarship banquet honored students and veterans continuing their educations as well as several community advocates at the Omni Hotel downtown.
Wednesday night's event awarded 12 area high schoolers and three local veterans with scholarships as they continue their education.
Commandress Monica Chavez-Lozano shared with 3NEWS, what it means to bring everyone together for this special event, year after year.
"I have a big military background family so this organization is very dear to my heart," Chavez-Lozano said. "Being a part of it and encouraging our students, educating them on the legacy of Dr. Hector, and on top of that, we are encouraging them and supporting them with their future endeavors. It's just amazing, it's a beautiful tribute."
The GI Forum of South Texas also recognized five amazing community advocates which included our 3NEWS team, and we thank them for that honor.
