CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An Alice High School student has tested positive for tuberculosis, the Department of State Health Services confirmed to 3NEWS Thursday morning.
Mauro Ruiz, a program manager for DSHS said that TB testing teams are on site at the Alice High School campus, working with individuals they believe were likely exposed to the communicable disease.
Chris Van Deusen with DSHS said 34 people were tested. They should receive results within a few days.
Ruiz could not say at the time how many individuals the department believes are likely to have been exposed to the student.
Officials said the case is not travel related and are not releasing any information on how the student might have contracted the illness at this time.
