CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Aransas Pass city manager Gary Edwards is set to retire from local government within the next 30 days.

The beloved administrator said he is thankful for the opportunity he's had to serve the community, and he feels recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey in 2017 are 'mostly complete,' making it a good time for him to retire. He is also ready to spend more time with his family and grandchildren.

Edwards submitted his letter of resignation to City Council on Monday. He requested that the city allow him to finish his time there within a shorter time span than the required 30-day window if they are able to find an interim City Manager.

City Secretary Kandice Garrett had this to say about the news:

"I would like to go on record and say that in the period of time that I have been here at the City, having worked for and with several City Managers, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Mr. Edwards. He is a highly qualified professional who navigates the political climate with grace under pressure. He has continually shown those he comes in contact with respect and I will miss his presence."
