Visit Corpus Christi CEO Brett Oetting resigns after almost 5 years

Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni confirmed the news to 3NEWS on Wednesday evening.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Visit Corpus Christi CEO Brett Oetting resigned from the organization, Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni confirmed to 3NEWS on Wednesday. 

In a resignation letter dated Tuesday to Visit Corpus Christi's Board of Directors President Sam Canavati, Oetting states his last day will be Oct. 31.

Oetting has led the visitors bureau for a little more than 4 1/2 years.

"I walked into an underperforming and untrusted organization on the first day of COVID-19, the worst pandemic in 100 years." he states in the letter. "I am proud of what we have accomplished together and am grateful for the support of many board members throughout my tenure."

During his time with Visit Corpus Christi, the organization created the Corpus Christi Sports Commission and Corpus Christi Film & Music Commission. 

In 2022, the organization was named the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau Organization of the Year and received other state, national and international awards.

The board has called an emergency board meeting Friday to discuss the next steps. According to a press release, Oetting is in the process of implementing a transition plan with the executive committee.

While a 501(c)(6) destination management organization, Visit CC does receive $7 million of city money.
