CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Popular politician, Beto O'Rourke, found himself in Portland on Monday for a signing event after the release of his new book titled, "We've Got to Try."
It's about the history of voting rights and democracy in the state of Texas, an important topic today as he says voting rights are "under attack" in the state.
O'Rourke said the best way to change that is to increase voter registration, something he's had help with from volunteers right here in the Coastal Bend.
"Every time I've come to Nueces County I have met the most extraordinary people who are willing to volunteer to go meet complete strangers to register them to vote to turn them out in important elections," he said.
O'Rourke encourages everyone to make their voices heard at the polls.
