CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One industry that is starting to see drastic growth in the Coastal Bend is Bitcoin.
Crypto currency has seen large interest across the state, with a mining facility here looking to turn on an estimated ten thousand computers for their operation.
A local expert said our area is primed for this business.
"That's naturally due to the relatively low energy costs. And bitcoin miners in order to verify transactions they need to use energy for their computing resources. So, Texas and Corpus Christi in particular are great places for bitcoin miners," said associate professor of finance at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi Dr. Dimitrios Koutmos.
The professor also added that as Bitcoin's popularity increases, it's only natural that more jobs will become available to meet that demand.
