Coastal Bend attorney shares his story inspiring others during Black History Month

Local attorney Matt Manning shared his background growing up, who inspired him along the way and importance of making connections.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — "The beauty of black history and all history is that there is such a wealth of information. And you'll find that a lot of our stories are more common than we recognize," said attorney Matt Manning.

Manning stopped by First Edition Thursday morning to help kick off Black History Month sharing his experiences growing up and path to becoming a successful attorney.

Manning will tell you, and rightfully so, that he cannot speak on behalf of an entire ethic group but he can lead by example.

Here is a bit of his background and how he arrived in Corpus Christi. (You can read more here).

Manning was raised in Austin, Texas by his dad, the pastor of Sweet Home Missionary Church, and his mom, an administrator at Seton Hospital. After graduating from W.C. Akins High School in Austin in 2004, Manning began his studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C. —“HU! You know!” — laser focused on attending law school. During his time in DC, he interned on Capitol Hill and became immersed in politics. His experiences in college and the august legacies of those who went before him at Howard cemented his desire to serve others through legal practice, particularly in the area of civil rights.
