The future of Bob Hall Pier is underway

The new pier is set to be complete by December of 2025.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The long awaited groundbreaking of the new Bob Hall Pier is finally here. The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking Monday at 10 a.m.

This new beginning comes two years after the county demolished the old pier following the damage it received from Hurricane Hanna back in 2020.

The pier has suffered damage from five different hurricanes since it was built in 1950. Those include Hurricane Carla in 1961, Hurricane Beulah in 1967, Hurricane Celia in 1970, Hurricane Allen in 1980 and Hurricane Hanna.

The cost of the pier is set to cost around $27 million. Precinct 4 County's Commissioner Brent Chesney says the new pier will outlast the previous versions as it will have a 50-year last span and be built to withstand a 100-year storm.

On Aug. 23, the contractor for the project, Callan Marine, was given a 'Notice to Proceed' construction from the county. That started the deadline countdown for the pier to be finished within 460 days. If the project isn't finished within that timeframe agreement between the County and the contractor, the contractor can be penalized

As of now, the goal is for the pier to be complete by December of 2025.
