CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department made a surprise announcement Wednesday that one if its own is Boston bound!
The CITGO team is one of the many that are headed to the Boston Marathon in April. Assistant Police Chief Mark Schauer was one of two community members selected for the team.
Schauer is an avid runner, and he will represent first responders in the Coastal Bend.
He says that running in this "prestigious race" is a dream come true.
"These are the most elite runners, really, in the country running this race," said Schauer. "It's really difficult to get into. And it'll be a great experience...it's a lifetime experience to go and do it, and so....I'm honored and I'm real excited."
Schauer has participated in 24 marathons since 2015, and while he claims he's not "competitive," he says he'll be prepared with a strategy so he can finish the marathon without a hitch.
