CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — During Tuesday's city council meeting, the council approved the second reading of five agenda items moving closer to the creation of a desalination plant in Corpus Christi.
The items approved covered information over construction, power security and funding for the desalination plant.
Tensions were high before the readings as numerous community members participated in public comment to voice their concerns about the plant as well as other agenda items.
According to a press release from the City of Corpus Christi, a pilot study for the Inner Harbor Seawater Treatment Plant will begin this year and testing for the water produced will take place once the pilot is online.
