City leaders to discuss Stage 3 water restriction plans

Officials told 3NEWS the City should have some guidance for residents regarding water conservation in the upcoming weeks.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The City has been working to bring new pools and splash pads to the community for the summer time, but what will it mean for those projects if we enter Stage 3 drought conditions?

Right now the Drought Contingency Plan says during Stage 3 water restrictions pools cannot be refilled.

Splash pad structures should be unaffected, but leaving a pool empty can be damaging causing homeowners and the City costly repairs.

City Manager Peter Zanoni said the plan was made five years ago and may not have taken into consideration the facilities we have today.

He says the conversation of whether or not changes to the ordinance should be made have already begun.

"Today we're at 27 combined percent on our western reservoirs, so 20 percent is quite probable, so we are going to be back in the next week or two -- two weeks I should say -- with some type of recommendation to City Council and the community about what do we do with that provision."

Security for those projects is another pressing topic of discussion after Cole Park was vandalized within just the first week of completion on certain upgrades.
