CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The expansion of the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery is underway, with two of the project’s phases currently in their preliminary phases.
Nueces County Director of Veterans Services JJ de la Cerda said the project is moving along quickly and is expected to be complete by Spring 2025.
"We're also expanding, right, 'cause the Space Force is now a military branch,” he said. “So, we're putting the Space Force flag and seal at the assembly area. In addition, we're also adding an automatic front gate for our cemetery. So, that way, if you ever get stuck in the cemetery, it lets you out."
De la Cerda said everyone entering and exiting the cemetery should avoid using the back gate because of the ongoing construction, and that the front gate should be used until construction is finished.
