Corpus Christi Fire Department prepares for new Fire Station No. 8

CCFD Fire Chief Brandon Wade said the upgrades have been long-awaited, but ultimately, it's all about facilitating quicker response times.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Fire Department are in the early planning stages of the new Fire Station No. 8, which will be located a few blocks from their current site.

Corpus Christi City Council agreed Tuesday, to acquire land located at 4904 Kostoryz Road and 3115 McArdle Road through eminent domain.

The current station is situated on 4645 Kostoryz Road. CCFD Station #8 Fire Captain David Lopez stated that the new station's placement at the McArdle intersection aims to decrease response times significantly.

"Since out location is pretty centered in the city, we'll be able to respond quicker, getting on the freeways of 358 and 186," he said.

The relocation also comes at a good time because the building they're currently occupying is beginning to show its age, considering it was built in the 1950s.

"Sometimes keeping up with the maintenance and the housekeeping with this station can be sometimes troublesome," he said.

CCFD Fire Chief Brandon Wade said the upgrades have been long-awaited, but ultimately, it's all about facilitating quicker response times.

"Whether its the medical side or fire side, seconds matter," he said.

Wade said that when selecting the new location for Fire Station #8, the appearance played a significant role in the decision.

"When we look at a six minute travel time for our fire apparatus and medic units. It expands greatly by moving fire station 8 to Kostoryz and the McArdle location," he said.

Wade said that the new station will feature more firetruck bays than the current two, allowing the department to allocate resources more effectively in emergencies.
