CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — (Editor's note: Texas DPS issued an update to the names of the two victims and of the fatal crash on US 59 near the Live Oak/McMullen County line. One of the victim's ages has also been updated. That change has been reflected in the story below.)
Multiple crashes are under investigation in Live Oak County.
Around 2:30 Thursday morning --a truck driving north on 2-81 near George West hit the center median --jumped over the crossover-- and rolled multiple times. Troopers say the driver --42-year-old Orlando Palacios-- was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
A trooper near the Live Oak County/ Mcmullen county line drove up on a deadly crash at the intersection of 59 and FM 6-24 early Thursday as well. Investigators determined a Ram towing a trailer with goats did not yield at the stop sign and was hit in the intersection by a tractor trailer. Both vehicles went off the roadway --hitting a stop sign and plowing through a wire fence. Two men --Brian Tamburello, 43 and Mario Morquecho, 24-- were killed.
Both men were from Harper, Texas.
63-year old Mitchell Chapman --the driver of the tractor trailer-- was sent to an area hospital with minor injuries.
