CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Wednesday is the last day to file your protest over your property tax appraisal.
It's a busy time for staff at the Nueces County Appraisal District who are seeing more and more homeowners coming through their doors as the deadline approaches.
You don't need an appointment, but you do need your exemptions which Chief Appraiser Ronnie Canales says are a major key to your valuation.
Exemptions include your homestead, disabled veteran status, being over the age of 65, to name a few.
Providing that information can help bring your property value down, saving you money.
"The tax payer still will get some type of discount whether it's a homesteaded property or a non-homesteaded property," Canales said. "So hopefully the effect from what the state is trying to do is to relieve a tax burden on you."
If you do plan to protest, Canales said to be sure to bring pictures of your property, as well as any information about repairs you have planned.
You can even ask for an inspection.
