CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Demolition began Tuesday on one of three city piers in Port Aransas, Texas, that were destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. A crane was moved into place to start taking the piers apart.
In 2017, Harvey demolished the J.P. Luby Fishing Pier at Roberts Point Park, and the Ancel Brundrett Pier at the north end of Station Street. Each pier will cost over $1 million to rebuild, but 90-percent of the money will come from FEMA.
There is some insurance on the structures, but it is not expected to cover the entire 10-percent the City will have to pay.
Construction on all three piers is expected to begin in 2020.
