CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Del Mar College presented a prestigious award to history professor Dr. Bryan Stone designating him as this year's 'Piper Professor'.
This is Stone's first nomination to receive the distinction since 2005.
The award is one of the highest honors in Texas that a faculty member can receive and it highlights an educator's dedication to their profession.
"For me what's been especially rewarding is knowing that I'm working with students who maybe it's their first time in college for them, maybe the first in family to go to college, some of them from different backgrounds that sort of presents challenges to them and to be able to sort of work closely with students and catch on and improve and become successful is really great," Stone said.
Stone also received a $5,000 honorarium check and commemorative pin.
He joins 10 other honorees from Del Mar College named before him since 1960.
