CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Over 200 local leaders dropped everything on their busy schedules on Wednesday to take time to read to students at Gloria Hicks Elementary School.
Guests like Bishop Edmond Carmody, 3NEWS' very own Barbi Leo and Gloria Hicks herself celebrated the school's 15th annual 'Drop Everything and Read,' -- with the biggest turnout of community leaders the event has ever seen!
Hicks said having leaders come out and read is crucial for students to know how important reading is for their future.
"It makes a difference in the kids, and this is our future, and we have to make a difference with our kids here for the future," she said. "And we know that this is going happen if we get people here to show them they care about them."
