AGUA DULCE, Texas — An elderly man using a walker was killed Tuesday after being hit by a train in Agua Dulce, said Nueces County Pct. 5 Constable Oscar Mendoza.
The man, identified Thursday by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as 75-year-old Erasmo Castillo, reportedly was a resident of Agua Dulce.
Mendoza said the man was attempting to cross the tracks while the arms were down.
DPS and the Nueces County Sheriff's Office were investigating the fatal crash on County Road 70, while Mendoza's deputies assisted.
DPS Public Information Sgt. Harold "Rob" Mallory said DPS was notified about the incident at around 4:45 p.m., and that a portion of FM 70 is closed while the scene is cleared.
Sgt. Rudy Gonzalez with sheriff's office said late Tuesday evening that Castillo's family was notified of his death, and they were on scene.
The sheriff's office handled the initial investigation at the scene of the crash, but Gonzalez said the Railroad Commission is now also an investigating party.
