CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —
Election day is Tuesday.
Aside from voting for your mayor and city council members, the city is also asking you to vote on four props that are part of their proposed Bond 2024 - Prop A, B, C and D. There are a combined 38 projects in this $175 million bond package.
Prop A covers street projects, Prop B deals with parks and recreation, Prop C covers public safety and Prop D will improve cultural facilities. Projects can be done with the existing city property tax rate.
Prop A is composed of 18 different projects, totaling $89.5 million dollars.
The most expensive project in Prop A would take care of city residential streets. The bond shows a city plan to spend $35 million dollars to resurface residential streets selected from the city's approved 5-year infrastructure management program.
It's important to note that of the 18 total projects under this prop, 10 only cover the design of the street project - meaning in two years, voters will have to approve the actual construction.
Those design only projects range from a $2 million Allen Crest reconstruction design to a $3.3 million Cimarron reconstruction design.
Prop B is made up of 11 different city park projects that total a $37.6 million investment. The most expensive project takes care of the Oso Golf Center Club House replacement.
The bond details the city's plan to spend $10 million to construct a new 10,000 sq. ft., two-story club house to replace the 85-year-old building that currently stands.
The city is also looking to spend $5 million to improve Commodore Park, $3.5 million to expand Labonte Park with a softball and baseball field and $3 million to construct a helicopter pad, memorials, landscaping and, signage at Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park.
Prop C is consists of seven different projects that total $45 million.
The most expensive projects in Prop C are two $12.5 million investments to replace Fire Station No. 8 on Kostoryz Road and Fire Station No. 10 on Horne Road.
The prop also includes an investment of $9 million to construct a new northwest police substation near in Calallen near West Guth Park, $5 million investment for a far-south police substation and $1 million for the design of an additional police substation near La Palmera mall.
Prop D is the smallest of all propositions with only two projects for a combined investment of $2.8 million.
The city is looking to make an investment of $2 million to design a brand-new Clotilde P. Garcia Library and senior and community center complex.
The remaining $850,000 would cover the design and construction of improvements at the Lichenstein, Little Martins and Tex-Mex Railroad Houses in Heritage Park.
