CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department identified Officer Kyle Hicks as the officer who was shot in the line of duty early Saturday morning while responding to a domestic disturbance call. Other officers then shot and killed the man who shot Hicks.
CCPD says Hicks "sustained life threatening injuries and continues to fight for his life."
Hicks is married with four children. He is a two-year veteran of the police department.
Details of Saturday morning shooting
The shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the Summer House Apartments at 5401 Burnham Dr. That's on the city's southside.
CCPD officers, including Officer Hicks, were responding to a report of shots fired and a domestic disturbance.
Police say the gunman was a 26-year-old man. They have not yet identified him. They say the man pulled out a gun after a brief struggle and shot Hicks. Other officers then shot and killed the man. Those officers have also not been identified and are on standard administrative leave.
